Dunderbeck
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
From the meaty minds that brought you Hot Dogs, Horseshoes & Hand Grenades, we are proud to present, Dunderbeck! That's right, it's another sausage game.
Grind magical creatures into sausages in the mystical world of Cincinnati, Ohio!

Introducing the portable, all-purpose cooking & crafting machine: Shove in carcasses and random junk; cook up things that might be edible, and cobble together basic tools and weapons!
Seriously, pick something up and swing. A spoon? Sure. A lead pipe? Why not. A rat? Desperate times, right? Just don't expect your makeshift arsenal to last forever.

Hey, everything is eatable - at least once! Hold any item in your mouth for too long, and down the hatch it goes!

Just like the garbage you keep at home, all of OUR WONDERFUL GARBAGE has a size and shape. You can put it into nice little rows, or you can just go full goblin mode. We aren't your mom - do what feels right, you know?

Hi! I just found your game randomly on here. I loved it so much! I forgot it was a demo until the game itself stopped me haha! I hope it's alright I made a video that will be uploaded on youtube soon! I love your game and I've also wishlisted it on Steam! Disgusting in a non-gaggable and loveable way!
Thank you so much for the amazingly kind words and yes, of course it's okay that you made a video! Reply back with a link once it's uploaded. I can't wait to check it out!
I finally uploaded the video! I'll try to upload it here too.
I wishlisted this on Steam because it was so fun!! I actually forgot it was the demo toward the end haha, but I really enjoyed it and I hope you like my video even though it's kinda stupid lol
I can't wait to play it when the full game comes out!
Pantaloon has included this banger in our February bold and bizarre game bulletin:
You've got our number - Bold and Bizarre. Thank you so much for the mention!
Hi! This looks amazing. If you're looking to add Spanish support, I'd love to help. I’m a native speaker from Spain building my translation portfolio and I’m offering my services for free to get more experience in the indie scene. No strings attached, just high-quality localization. Feel free to DM me here or on Discord: @ruubn
Hey! Thank you so much for the offer! Admittedly, the translation support needs some work before I want to approach anyone to help muddle through it, but I'll try to remember to reach out when it comes to it :)
100% accurate cincinnati OH, also loading works fine on win11 now :)
Just a typical Tuesday in Porkopolis - and awesome! Glad to hear!
i cant open it, i have the same loading screen bug like the other player who launch it
Hey! I just pushed a new Windows/Linux build that should *hopefully* resolve the loading screen bug. Let me know how it works!
it work now
Excellent! Thanks for letting me know!
was this inspired by the old song 'Johnny Verbeck/Johnny Rebeck'?
It was! I learned it when I was little with the name "Dunderbeck's Machine" - this is inspired by that and early meat processing in the United States... But in a world with magical creatures!
lol I learned that song when I was little as well, but it was Johnny Rebeck. A few years back I did some research and found a more common name was Verbeck. I love how old songs like this evolve.
Every time we show off the game, there is always like, one or two people that show up and know the song haha - awesome. Yeah, I chased the history of the song quite a bit while working on this to see what I could find - in the most vague terms possible, where are you from? (don't dox yourself!) It seems to be more popular in the Midwest USA.
Hi, the page looks fantastic! However, I can't open the game (win11). I see the mouth with 3 dots, then the game window disappears. I can see the game icon in task bar and hear the music, but I can't open the it.
That's a weird one! Could you check to make sure you're on the newest windows build? Also, if you could grab the log file from: C:\Users\<YourUsername>\AppData\Godot\app_userdata\dunderbeck\logs
And then either post the contents here or send it to dunderbeck@rustltd.com - that would be amazing!
Thanks! I sent the log file to your email.
Thank you so much! I just pushed a new Windows/Linux build - I think it fixes that bug. It might not. It's been a long night lol. Fingers are crossed.
It works now. Thanks!
Woo hoo! 🦄
This game and these guys ROCK!!!! Absolutely weird and wacky gameplay. Downright disgusting in all the right ways.
So excited to find you guys on the Itch homepage!
Hey! Fancy seeing you here! Hope all is well - thanks for the comment! 💀💕
Game doesn't have any visuals on my computer? I open it and the screen shows gray and that black-and-white mouth with 3 dots under it and then the image disappears and it just shows my desktop and clicking on it in my taskbar does nothing.
Gah! I just submitted a new build last night and it looks like it has some bugs. I'll reply to this once I put up a new build, but in the meantime, what operating system are you on?
Also, if you are using a Mac, how old is it, is it an M1 chip, and what version of MacOS are you using?
latest windows update. works now.
Woot!
Hiiii! I tried playing it just now and it had a bug at the tutorial!!
The practice dummy had a giant speech bubble that only had a dot "." in it and I got stuck there!! (couldn't skip the dialogue or advance, even when the timer ran out).
I made a small video showing the bug here:
Oh no! I just submitted a new build last night. Let me see if I can sort that out - I'll reply here once I do!
Edit: also, lol @ the giant dialogue box. What the heck is that training dummy doing?!
Alright, I threw a bunch of stuff at the wall - it might be working now? Let me know if it still isn't - I couldn't get your specific bug to happen for me, but I think I know where-about it is happening
yay a mac build <3
Gah! Wait, hold on a sec - that build wasn't supposed to go through yet. It might be a bit buggy. I'm pushing a new one now.
Alright I think the new build is up! Let me know how it goes!
I will confess I'd already played the old one
And it's now wishlisted!
Hahaha aw well I'm glad it worked out! (It actually looks like my "fixes" may have introduced more bugs than solutions, so you might have had the more stable build after all...)
Thank you so much for playing and for the wishlist! ♥️
Weird, the I don't *remember* uploading Call of Duty, but that seems to be what the gameplay is. Money pleeeaassee.
I really love this! Excited for the full release.
The tutorial is quite jarring. I think that if you remove the timed messages it'll be way better.
Love itt! Charming, funny, sauced up and unique. Looking forward to full release!
I love games that encourage "suboptimal" experimentation, I WILL eat the bone knife, it WILL likely harm me.
Would love if the almanac was accessible in auto battle mode, I'm a sucker for "Pokedex-filling".
Minor fix for your consideration; I often stay on the slowest speed and every level resets it and I kept noticing too late once overwhelmed! Would prefer it stayed the same pace.
Keep up the good work Dunderdev!
Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback! The almanac needs a little love - this is actually version 2, haha. Third time will be a charm I think!
As for the speed changing on you, I think you're right! It was made to reset because we found that lots of new players had changed the speed in the tutorial and then didn't realize what they had done. I think that since we've added some visual feedback to the speed changes, that might be less important now - I'll turn off that feature on the next update and see how it goes!
Thank you again!
after 1 year of inactivity, this is what itch has become.
Kids these days. Eating rats, punching unicorns.
Very interesting game, cool art. Seems too fast, at least to start. I find it hard to get a grasp of.
Thank you for playing! There are plans to redo the tutorial, so the start of the game will eventually play a bit differently - hopefully it will be a bit easier to get into 😅
I started to understand but I got nothing from the current tutorial. As the tutorial text was going, the game is also moving forward so i was having a hard time paying attention to both.
This game is awesome! I love it to death! I will be playing this nonstop for the next couple of days.
(Windows)
Issues I am having so far:
When I turn my game to be a partial screen rather than a full screen, it cuts to black. The game is still functional, as when I hit enter I can hear it still playing, but I can't see anything.
It may be a style choice, but when you click options in the esc menu, the esc menu stays open and the options are behind it. Not too much of an issue, just something interesting.
Hey! Thank you so much for playing and for the bug report! Yikes yeah I think I might know what is causing both of those issues - I have an updated build that might fix those (but had another bug that I'm gonna fix today) - I should be able to have it uploaded by tonight 😅
I really enjoyed the game. No issues with the build at all (windows) and thought the world building, experimentation and aesthetic was fun. I did find the franticness a bit too frantic at times (especially if the item I was about to miss out on was rare) but honestly I kept playing anyways so.... I guess not too frantic to quit!
Some small things: I would have liked to see more detail in the effects of food items, like how much health food actually gave me, and maybe a recipe book that I could check at towns so I could remind myself what some of the recipes were - It was cool to discover them on the fly, but then in all the madness I would forget what some of them were. Overall though, this was a fun time - looking forward to the full version.
Hey! Thank you so much for playing and for the feedback, and awesome job sticking through the frantic moments haha.
I actually have a bunch of changes to the tooltips that gives you more information on what you should/shouldn't eat, since that seems to be a common bit of feedback - though, you still need to eat the item once to find out what the effects are!
There actually is a recipe book if you hit Tab, but it's actually the second attempt at making an almanac for the player and probably needs a third pass, so I didn't want to telegraph it too much (so it's just there as a hidden little feature if you accidentally trigger it.) That being said, a lot still falls onto the player to remember stuff 😅
Thank you, again, for playing!
I thought it was lots of fun, I had no problems with the build, unlike what other people are experiencing. I always love alternative worlds which don't take themselves seriously, where being the "guy who eats various meats and also everything else" is a respected position. I am tempted to eat and fight with everything that enters my inventory, despite the valuable nature and obvious danger associated with consuming a metal weapon. The frantic inventory management is a bit not to my taste, I would love a way to pause walking for a moment to deal with an influx of items, but I guess if that's not what you're going for in terms of gameplay it might just be a problem of preference. I did feel that this was unfair for the valuable enemies at the end of a run, I lost out on a lot of stuff I wanted after the boss fights because I had mere seconds before the guy left, and if I tried to switch to slowing down I speed up first, making the problem much worse. Managing large items was also a pain, as I couldn't bump out multiple smaller things, only one obstruction at a time. I feel the money balancing is way off, one run in the forest grinding pixies into dust and selling it to the baker gave me a ludicrous sum, when up to that point anything I would've wanted to buy was far out of my price range. I did enjoy heartily the experimenting with crafting, where you can see if an item would just be destroyed as opposed to becoming something useful. I think some kind of "stomach view" would be a cool add, I sometimes had a hard time telling what effects I was benefitting from, and since eating is such a huge mechanic having a screen showing the effects of what you're currently digesting would be both useful and amusing. On the subject of eating, I definitely want some kind of visual indicator for when something is going to be swallowed, as to manage more tightly how much time I have left until I can jam more rat meat in my craw. I do love the simplicity of controls, getting to only use the mouse really is easy to learn. The worldbuilding is again excellent, irreverently bashing whimsical beasts to death then looting their entire corpse for a taxidermist is great fun. Very excited to see how this develops.
Thank you so much for the feedback!
I'm currently sitting on a build of the game that addresses *some* of that (like making the stomach effects a little more clear, and pricing spikes) but I think you're right in that some of the mechanics come down to player (or in this case, mildly sadistic game dev) preference - I think there was a sort of tongue-in-cheek "progress forever marches forward!"choice in not allowing the player to completely pause the game to manage inventory, but I think I will add that as an accessibility option.
Thank you again so much for playing and for taking the time to write up such a thoughtful comment!
I hope my feedback was helpful, and definitely excited to see where this game goes.
It was super helpful - thank you for taking the time to write it all out!
broken for me too
Are you using the Linux or the Windows build? And could you send your log my way (see other comment)? I can see if I can figure out what's up.
dundergame
Dundercomment
broken, i can't do the tutorial because tutorial guy after prompt about cincinatti says only (.) and text window blocks half of the screen
Huh! Not sure what that is - but thank you for letting me know. If you don't mind, depending on your operating system (unless you're using Steam Deck - in that case, it's a bit too much of a pain), could you email the contents of the file "dunderbeck.log" located at:
Windows: %APPDATA%\Godot\app_userdata\dunderbeck\logs
Linux: ~/.local/share/godot/app_userdata/dunderbeck/logs
To Dunderbeck (at) RustLTD.com
Let me know if you need help locating the file, and I can give more specific directions. Thank you so much!
wonderful game
Thank you! ♥️
There's a linux build but not a Mac build??
More sausages use Linux.
I'm currently muddling through the signing process 😅 - once I get that sorted out, I'll make sure to upload it here!
Could send a strongly worded letter to Apple about making it less painful for devs to build for mac. I'm sure they'll listen.
This game is DISGUSTING and I absolutely love it.
I mean, what other game lets you chop unicorn spleens, cook kobold hot dogs, and sniff fairy dust?! Truly majestic.
Add in the ability to fight with a rat's tail, a wolf’s leg… or, you know, the whole wolf... and you've got ABSOLUTE CINEMA.
I love this game, but I hate sausages now.
Thanks for the great title, looking forward to full release!
Thank you so much for playing, for the awesome video, and for the kind words! We're so glad you liked it!
